We welcome you to our finca on Gran Canaria. It’s locally know as ‘La Hoyatilla’ which can be best translated to ‘The Dimple’. This name is based on the finca’s comfortable and sheltered position on our mountain. The finca is surrounded by mountains that are almost barren. Once, they were covered by extensive pine forests. Cut down by mankind to fuel the growing rum production, it created space and opportunity for extensive agriculture. But during the last decades, more and more people exchanged the countryside and farm life for opportunities in Las Palmas or on the Spanish mainland, leaving behind abandoned and degrading terraces to remember us of those days.Barren, unused, lacking biodiversity and water, the mountains deteriorate quickly. We want to do something about that and change the tide on our mountain. We want to return the mountain to a natural state where it can provide its own water and fertility. This will make it flourish once again.

The project

What do we do?

Planting an edible forest

We help pine trees to return to our mountain top. They will bring water to the food forest we will plant just below them. Just like how it worked in past. Read more >>

Creating an experience

With our rent-a-cave and our school program we offer to experience how it is to live a sustainable life. Read more >>

Sharing our knowledge

We share our knowledge and experiences with anyone who wants to learn. We do that through programs, coaching and YouTube. Read more >>

About us

Who are we?

We are Sjef and Winfred. Farmers, explorers, hikers, coaches and YouTubers. We changed our lives completely when we moved to Gran Canaria in may 2022, leaving behind our families, friends, jobs and house. We fully immerse ourselves in the local community and culture in order to change our lives and the lives of others.

Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
